Week 9 -Weekly Vocabulary

Word: Rheumatoid arthritis
Meaning: A chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the joints.
Context: Rheumatoid arthritis are always appear when we getting older .(From my co-worker"Ben".)

Word:Gel
Meaning: Is a solid, jelly like material that can have properties ranging from soft and weak to hard and tough.
Context: I saw a physical theory using gel helping the patient's doing feet massage .(From my con-worker.)

Word:Absorb
Meaning:To soak up or consume.
Context :Johnny forgot to watch basketball game on Sunday , as he was too absorb in his studies.(From SAT book.)

Word :Abhor
Meaning: Dislike or hate.
Context : Susan abhor grace because she didn't go out shopping with her .(From my friends)

Word :Impeach
Meaning :to challenge the credibility.
Context : Someone is impeach Sam because he's doing something wrong .(From US history class)

Week 8/9 - Midpoint Reflection

1. How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectation?
   My expectation of my internship are learn some based skills of Nursing/Physical theory and now i think my expectation are exceed because feeling like i learn more than i through.
   
   
2. What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment ?
   The different between school environment and workplace environment are school are a lot of noisy ,people can laugh loudly and you can see trash everywhere .Workplace environment which is Saint Vincent Hospital are a quiet place , everything is clean ,and organized .But the similar thing are they both environment is the place can learned .
   
   
3. What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?Which of these are transferable skills ?
   Some of the new skills i have learned in my workplace are Organized skill :They always ask me for help to organized stuff and it also can help myself to organized my house and my school work stuff. Clean skills:I have to clean up every time when a patient's finish and also sometimes they send me to the OT kitchen to wash and clean stuff. Communication skills : When the PT/OT/Nursing have free time they will come talk to me about school/colleges/hospital .
   
   
4. What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-worker?How have you grown as result of interacting with professional adults?What kinds of communication (Verbal and non-verbal skills)have you gained?
   The relationship between me and mentor/co-worker are very good and kind they always help me and teach me a lot of different kind of based physical theory skills .Interacting with professional adults i have been grown more brain storm (think before i do something) and know more about how a adult work .During my work time i do the both communication which Verbal and non-verbal skills , Verbal we used when we talk with some patient's are comfortable with speaking and the non-verbal communication are used for the patient's have hard time to speak .
   
   
5. What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them ?
   There's some of the challenges things at my internship : They always used a lot of big/hard words when they speak (Sometimes i ask them what that mean but sometimes i do not.) And sometimes they ask me to help with something and i really doesn't understand (I always ask them repeat and ask "Sorry,I don't understand what that mean?").
   
   
6. What challengers have you faced in school as result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them ?
   The challengers i have to faced in school are the homework time and classes work because we have a new different schedule and after work we actually feel tired but the way we hand it is catch up all the time you have and use it to do homework and study .
   
   
7. What goals are you working to accomplish during the remaining five weeks of the internship ?
   For the rest of five weeks of the internship .My goals are learn more new things from the co-workers ,learn more experience of physical theory and try my best to do every single thing .
   
   
8. What new things have you learned about New York City ?
   The new things i have learned about New York City is the hospital systems because compare to china hospital's there's a lot things are different .Such as the patient's bedroom ,the way of nurse's/doctor's/ dress ,the way how the hospital work ,etc .
   

Week 7-Weekly vocabulary

Word:Ultrasound
Meaning:The application of ultrasonic waves to therapy ,as in deep-heart treatment of a joint .
Context:On this Sunday my grandmother gonna go to do ultrasound .(From Hospital corridor 2nd floor.)

Word:Cardiopulmonary
Meaning:Affecting the heart and lungs .
Context:I really want to go to cardiopulmonary laboratory .(From a book called "Lists of rehabilitation".)

Word:Geriatrics
Meaning:The branch of medicine dealing with diseases and care of aged persons .
Context:I want to learn more about geriatrics processes and problems.(From my co-worker)

Word:Audiologists
Meaning:The study of hearing including rehabilitation of patients with hearing impairments.
Context:I always want to study audiologists.(From Hospital corridor 2nd floor.)

Word:Accreditation
Meaning :to regard as true or to believe.
Context:I think everyone have to accreditation each other .(From my SAT book)
